All About NIRS
fNIRS, or functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy, uses light to measure changes in brain activity. There is no radiation involved, and your child will not feel any sensation from the light. fNIRS is commonly used with infants and children, and there are no known risks.
When you first arrive to our lab, we will measure your child’s head to help us choose the fNIRS cap that will fit them best. They will wear a child-sized fNIRS cap, which looks like a swim cap attached to plastic discs and wires. The fNIRS portion of the session takes about an hour, and your child will play various computer games while wearing the fNIRS cap. Watch the video below to learn more about fNIRS!
